Transcript of the visit to Heritage Key by the Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable, April 2010 (part 1)

Note: Part II of this experience got captured by Viv Trafalgar, after our large group split up to explore different eras represented in Heritage Key. Part I captures the big group meeting at the start of the field trip, then Iggyo and Hobbs as they travel to Stonehenge.

[13:46] IM: Nefertiti Statue: Attributed to the sculptor Thutmose, this polychrome bust of Egypt's queen is world famous. Thutmose, whose workshop was excavated in 1912, must have been one lucky sculptor, being asked to capture for eternity the ravishing face of the Queen who's ancient name meant A Beautiful Woman Has Come.

[13:50] Viv Trafalgar: there are also four tablets based on the armarna correspondence hidden around the area

[13:51] Viv Trafalgar: yes - the scribe who owns hte house is very suspicious of interlopers

[13:51] Oronoque Westland: @Kali...glad you can swim

[13:51] Viv Trafalgar: the tablets contain four clues to a plot - if you solve it, you will be rewarded

[13:51] Olivia Hotshot: i love the story line woven through the clickables - it makes so much sense

[13:51] Viv Trafalgar: too much to do in a short period

[13:51] Kali Nbty: me the queen of upper and lower egypt the cheek

[13:57] Viv Trafalgar: you need to wear the journal to track progress that way but we've worked really hard to make things as interactive as possible no matter what

[13:57] Hobbs Constantine: Thanks, I just went for the cape and staff, there was a dress

[13:57] Viv Trafalgar: Kali - my team worked on this area - from the house and surroundings to the interactive games and household members for two months

[13:58] Viv Trafalgar: pretty constantly - it was a labor of love in the end

[13:58] Kali Nbty: fantastic

[13:58] Hobbs Constantine: you all look great too and Iggy and I had LOTS of fun at Stonehenge, too much to see with one hour

[13:58] Kali Nbty: yeah us too

[13:58] Viv Trafalgar: and we had a lot of great material to work with from the prior version of amarna as well

[13:58] Viv Trafalgar: but the games and the build are new

[13:58] Viv Trafalgar: we are working on interactives in the treasury now

[14:01] Kitchen Servant: Bread and beer are the staples of life here. Both are made from grain.

[14:01] Margie Polishradio: ready to kill somebody

[14:01] Margie Polishradio: lol

[14:01] Kitchen Servant: Emmer is a delicious grain, but it takes a lot of work to process before we can turn it into bread.

[14:01] Viv Trafalgar: i think we can hang out

[14:01] Kitchen Servant: First we thresh it, then we have to soak it and grind it in the mortar and pestle sets you see against the wall.

[14:01] Kitchen Servant: Then we let it dry in the sun for a bit. Then we use sieves made from rushes to separate the grain from larger bits of chaff.

[14:01] Hobbs Constantine: yeah the staff is REALLY for effect

[14:01] Kitchen Servant: We often have to pick out bits after that by hand, but the sieves make that less work than it would be otherwise.

[14:02] Kitchen Servant: To get flour we grind the separated grain by hand, usually with a flat grinding stone.

[14:02] Viv Trafalgar: kali you can make bread - look for the chair icon

[14:02] Kitchen Servant: When the flour has been mixed into a bread dough, we use the pottery ovens to cook it.

[14:02] Margie Polishradio: nice food

[14:02] Margie Polishradio: I am hungry
