Olivia Hotshot: Hi everyone, and welcome to our weekly Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable meeting.

Olivia Hotshot: If you are sitting in the amphitheater seats, we ask you to come down and join us around the roundtable. There is always an empty seat closest to the ramp.

Olivia Hotshot: Our meetings are made possible by the Office of Information Technology at Montclair State University. We meet here each week at 230 pm SLT for an hour.

Olivia Hotshot: The Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable is a forum to educate and inform the community about issues that are important and relevant to education.

Olivia Hotshot: Today's meeting, How To Teach In SL Without Owning Land, will be in TEXT CHAT only.

Olivia Hotshot: The views and opinions of any of our special guests or visitors do not necessarily represent those who volunteer or organize these meetings, or of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Office of Information Technology , or Montclair State University

Olivia Hotshot: This is a public meeting, so we do keep a transcript of what is said in local chat. For a copy of transcripts, please visit http//www.vwer.org

Olivia Hotshot: Some of our transcripts are now available transcribed into a sound file. You can find them in iTunes Podcasts by searching for VWER.

Olivia Hotshot: The Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable meeting happens each week and we are looking to develop a community of educators from around the world with a variety of thoughts, needs, and ideas.

Olivia Hotshot: Please join the Virtual Worlds Education Roundtable group here in SL. You can also find us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Flicker, and KoinUp, as well as on Twitter as VWER.

Olivia Hotshot: Also, the VWER will visit to the 3rd Rock Grid on May 21st at 1:00pm SLT. Information to assist in creating an account and login to the 3rd Rock Grid is in the boxes at the bottom of the stairs. Click to get a notecard. See Margaret Michalski for more in

Olivia Hotshot: Finally, if you have Mystitool on, or other similar tool, please put it to sleep or detach it for now. -) It tends to lag things.

Olivia Hotshot: I'm Olivia, today's moderator for this group, and hosting today for AJ Brooks. If you've not seen the transcripts Iggy runs, you should check them out - they are a great information asset.

Olivia Hotshot: Why don't we get started they way we usually do, by introducing ourselves.  No need to wait, go ahead and type who you are, where you are, and your ties to education into local chat.

Olivia Hotshot: I am Ann Steckel, an educational technology consultant and educator from California State University, Chico.

Margaret Michalski: me

hobbs Constantine: yes

Mimi Muircastle: not me but hoping :)

Olivia Hotshot: OK< then lets start off with that.....

LoCE99Ch8 Morpork: Is it ok to ask how many are teaching/working in SL?

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: we booted my ALT, however, to make room for more stuff

Kathryn Pleides: no

Olivia Hotshot: Lo, we'll get to that

LoCE99Ch8 Morpork: ok

Kalyan Horatio: I teach English in SL

Deb Quintessa: I am

Kalyan Horatio: I have 15 students

Kalyan Horatio: I teach them free

Olivia Hotshot: I want to hear now from the people working on FREE parcels to you - but owned by an institution - How did you find the land?

ValentineBouquet Garnet: I want to begin this summer and fall

Julia Tiraxibar: I am involved with Texas A&M and convinced them that I needed my own space.

Margaret Michalski: through other educators

VWER_may11_10_009

Logos Sohl: no

Olivia Hotshot: Julia and Margaret, can you tell us more?

Olivia Hotshot: If someone has land here on Montclair please speak up.

Logos Sohl: (taht no was for the previous q...)

Margaret Michalski: my supervisor was in SL 2 years longer than I and heard about an opportunity for free land

hobbs Constantine: Land owner approached me with offer

Olivia Hotshot: very cool Hobs

Mimi Muircastle: yes, Hobbs, ubercool for you :)

Julia Tiraxibar: Texas A&M has bought into the idea of SL and bought 2 islands with is now expanded to 3+. I've been involved since the beginning first working with Rachelle here on her space, then expanding.

ValentineBouquet Garnet: how does one find free land?

ValentineBouquet Garnet: for teaching?

Olivia Hotshot: OK, then next group - those of you who are eductional hobos, how do you teach or work here in SL>

Julia Tiraxibar: ,,, to my own corner onthe TAMU site.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: to be honest, Kevin, our estate manager, was eager to have anyone on the campus build there...so a colleague and I did

Olivia Hotshot: Valentine, that is exactly what we are going to talk about.

Jimmie Veeper: Grant funding purchased a sim in TSL.

tjmeister Megadon: Does opensim count? Often plenty of free land in various opensim grids...

Kali Pizzaro: GCu bought an island public and private to teach on

Jimmie Veeper: We're starting a special economic zone.

Olivia Hotshot: We are talking about SL today TJ

Jimmie Veeper: red-headed step child again.

Logos Sohl: I'm teaching business strategy so i showcase locations and kinds of businesses

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I dont think LL offers the free classrooms any longer...too bad

Logos Sohl: But this year was a small scale pilot

tjmeister Megadon: kk

Mick Darmoset: I am pushing for small affordable plots big enough for a classroom

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: correct me if I am wrong on that

Olivia Hotshot: I don't know if that is true or not Iggy. I assume it is.

Logos Sohl: i was offered the use of classroom and its facilities if i wanted hem

Firery Broome: Didn't info islands have some a while back?

Olivia Hotshot: So far from what i am hearing - it is a connection in sl that helped you find free land?

Firery Broome: and I think NMC had some people could use as well. But not sure if that still is true.

Logos Sohl: I bumped into someone who offered me the use of their land (but didnt use it in the end)

Margaret Michalski: yes, if you know people well enough they may offer a free corner as well.

Logos Sohl: Everything in sl is connection and word of mouth

ValentineBouquet Garnet: I think teachers want to have space that is their own to teach on; more security, more reliability

Olivia Hotshot: OK, then lets brainstorm - where could we advise people to look or go or ask for information abou tfree land? For example the SLED list.

Mimi Muircastle: question: if someone offers you land to teach on, where do your students come from?

Geoff Lumley: The island I now own - Education UK - was the site of a free land grant programme back in 2007. Educators were given a small parcel to get started on in exchange for a report after a year

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: you may wish to visit the Campus: Second Life region to see about the classroom program: SLURL is here (omitting a VERY long SLURL)
Olivia Hotshot: yikes

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: ouch

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: sorry

Logos Sohl: hehe

Olivia Hotshot: will leave you to clean that one up on the transcript Iggy.

Kali Pizzaro: Geoff you took the words out of my mouth hehe

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: if I can :)

Lolly Dovgal: What was that?

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: location for the campus SL region, with classroom space for free

Olivia Hotshot: Reposting in case it was missed: OK, then lets brainstorm - where could we advise people to look or go or ask for information abou tfree land? For example the SLED list.

Margaret Michalski: EdTech offers free space to teach I know

Kali Pizzaro: in the uk you could join the VWW list and ask there

VWER_may11_10_020

Olivia Hotshot: Good one Margaret!

Zotarah Shepherd: I am planning to offer classes for educators on my land and will just let the LSED list and Education groups know. I am waiting for IRB permission since it is for my Thesis project.

Kali Pizzaro: or collaborate with a uni

Olivia Hotshot: I periodically see free land offered on the SLED list - as well as people asking for it. Do you all know what the SLED list is?

Sheila Yoshikawa: I think SLED or the virtualworlds@jiscmail.ac.uk, as Kali said, they always (I think) get a response

Kali Pizzaro: thanks Sheila

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: btw, all, the LM posted works, and it notes that free land is still available. Worth a check with LL> I understand it is only for one academic term, however. I guess you can renew.

Olivia Hotshot agrees with @Shelia.

Sheila Yoshikawa: or coming along to meetings like this? I would advise people who are interested to start being a bit visible at meetings, so if they ask, then you know it is someone who knows you have to get to know SL

Kali Pizzaro: @Sheila agree

Mimi Muircastle: excellent point Sheila :)

Olivia Hotshot: other advice?

Sheila Yoshikawa: though in fact anyone can tp onto our island and use the venues if they happen to be free, but they wouldn't have rezzing rights

Kalyan Horatio: I am not sure what you all mean by Free land. Free space where I can teach or free space for which I dont have to pay but the parcel info will show my name?

Mimi Muircastle: Is there a way to gather info about available land and match it with those who are looking for it?

ValentineBouquet Garnet: good idea

Kali Pizzaro: great suggestion Mimi

Olivia Hotshot: Kalyan, we are talking about free space where educators can work. Putting your name on the land is the icing. We want space.

Mimi Muircastle: :) ty

Geoff Lumley: Could be both Kalyan.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Keep in mind, too, that if you have a premium acct or a colleague with one, mainland property is dirt cheap and you can get a 512 m parcel and avoid monthly tier fees

Mick Darmoset: many of the big established sl campuses seem to be ok loaning out classrooms for show term use

Kalyan Horatio: Ok Geoff

Olivia Hotshot: Excellent suggestion Iggy.

Birdie Newcomb: It's very handy to have control of a parcel, but you might manage just with setting group permissions.

Olivia Hotshot: @Mick, i have seen that s well.

Mick Darmoset: we have a theory that one can teach a class on a 512 or 1024 sq m parcel and do not need a full sim

Mimi Muircastle: and there is lots and lots of land for sale right now - @Iggy

Logos Sohl: @Iggy lots of educators want students isolated or secluded from the mainland

ValentineBouquet Garnet: good point Mich

Sheila Yoshikawa: it really depends what you want to do, suppose that is obvious!

Olivia Hotshot: My chico group has been on 1/4th of a sim from the start. we do quite well on a small parcel.

Jesse Fugue: Yes, my students are in high school....I would want them away from the mainland.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: yes--I got a 512 for 1500L and it could be a great sandbox for a group, with autoreturn set generously :)

Kalyan Horatio: Management of the parcel I find is very important to thwart griefers when my session is in progress

Mimi Muircastle: thanks to your building ability @Olivia!

Birdie Newcomb: My first resident built an 8-storey structure.

Olivia Hotshot: Jesse, they have to be on the teen grid.

Geoff Lumley: Depends what you want to do Mick. If all you need is a bunch of seats, 1 512 parcel is plenty big enough

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Jesse, good point, but the adult stuff seems to have moved. The trick is to find protected land around your purchase

Kali Pizzaro: we have a private area for our student. However they dont tend to drift in nursing for some reason

Mick Darmoset: Yes Kalyan that is a worry

VWER_may11_10_022

Sheila Yoshikawa: it is easier now that you can get a lot more low prim stuff that looks good

Kali Pizzaro: might are post grad right enough

Kali Pizzaro: mine

Kalyan Horatio: Yes mick

Lolly Dovgal: Wouldn't it be nice to share facilities, land with other campuses?

Olivia Hotshot: Excellent point Lolly.

Lolly Dovgal: Generic campus

Kalyan Horatio: Great idea Lolly

Sheila Yoshikawa: @Lolly I think it is often just a matter of asking?

Kali Pizzaro: i think some uni would be up for that

Lolly Dovgal: Yes, I do, too.

Sheila Yoshikawa: I do USE other people's areas, sometimes asking but not alway

Kali Pizzaro: we are always looking for folk to collaborate with

Lolly Dovgal: Educators are often willing to share, especially those on cutting edge of technology.

Olivia Hotshot: I find people in ed circles to be very open and embracing of others and helpful to get those started

Kali Pizzaro: its convincing the powers sometimes

ValentineBouquet Garnet: if land is shared, more possibilities for collaboration, sharing of ideas, and student interaction, etc

Mimi Muircastle: great pt. Valentine

Kali Pizzaro: woop woop to collaboration and students mixing

Geoff Lumley: Agreed Lolly. Most of us with whole regions can't find enough staff to use the land. I've got plenty of space free

Mimi Muircastle: yes, Kali!

Logos Sohl: i like the shared land idea. its cheaper and it encourages synergy.

Kali Pizzaro: same here Geoff

Mick Darmoset: but if you schedule a semester in advance you want the media rights and access list in your hands I think

Lolly Dovgal: Hmmmm

Olivia Hotshot: OK going to shift gears a bit.......now that we kind of know we can find land by networking, SLED list, asking larger institutions or friends...... lets talk about teaching tools or aids. Where can educators find good free resources?

Kali Pizzaro: it depends also if there is already a agreement between unis

Kali Pizzaro: uni

Birdie Newcomb: EduNation is one source

Lolly Dovgal: Scheduling locations becomes an issue.

Geoff Lumley: But, speaking from experience, there is danger in relying on a third party to provide access to land. Owning the region gives security

Kali Pizzaro: sometimes you dont know who you have a agreement with

Ignatius Onomatopoeia sighs...not at Xstreets any longer. That darn freebie policy really hurt us.

Kali Pizzaro: yes Geoff

Mick Darmoset: the one missing link for us was a drawing board aka blackboard aka whiteboard

Olivia Hotshot: agree Iggy.

ValentineBouquet Garnet: owning is good, I agree

Olivia Hotshot: Free Teaching Resources anyone?

Logos Sohl: Tools in general: immersion tools jam but I'm not sure about education tools. again, I've been gifted tools. And i collected a bunch at vwbpe.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: There were great tools for free at InfoIsland...I'll see if I have a reasonable SLURL this time

LoCE99Ch8 Morpork: Sloodle

Olivia Hotshot: aren't there good resources at Chilbo?

Rachelle Munro: Jeanette @ Wells ...love her weekly tools.jam sessions

Logos Sohl: I did come across and education island with a bunch of education stuff. maybe it was chilbo

VWER_may11_10_005

tjmeister Megadon: With web on a prim, most web based tools become accessible...

Birdie Newcomb: EduNation has stuff

Olivia Hotshot: Good one Birdie.

ValentineBouquet Garnet: getting the free tools in one thing, but we all need to learn how to use them in our lessons effectively

Kali Pizzaro: it can be easy

Lolly Dovgal: ISTE provides training, I recall.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Avatar named Milosun Czervik gave me a tour back in 2007--lots of good free (or cheap) tools at: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Info%20Island/111/101/33

Logos Sohl: This is why the tools jam is great

Mimi Muircastle: another good pt. Valentine

Olivia Hotshot: Valentine, excellent point - for another convo. =)

Del Hapmouche: Just came across a collection of educational tools that's coming out: http://www.margaperez.com/2010/03/the-collection-of-educational-tools-for-second-life/

Kali Pizzaro: sometimes just changing a line in a script

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: including a file cabinet of lesson plans

Birdie Newcomb: Is that where he is now.

Kali Pizzaro: to make it do what you want

Olivia Hotshot: Thanks Del.

Kali Pizzaro: it helps if you also have great tech behind you

Birdie Newcomb: Or look up the creators: AngryBeth Shortbread, Eloise Pasteur

Julia Tiraxibar: I like International Schools for free stuff

Kali Pizzaro: you sometimes need to come up with the idea but chat to tech and look at what others have done

Olivia Hotshot: Angry Beth has some great stuff

Julia Tiraxibar: Yes, she does.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: if you need free Victorian clothing courtesy of Viv Trafalgar for historical RP or a sim, you can visit our House of Usher Visitor's Center at Richmond: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Richmond/128/128/2

Birdie Newcomb: The mystitool is handy

ValentineBouquet Garnet: these links will all be transcripted, after the meeting, correct???

LoCE99Ch8 Morpork: There are a lot of freebies just south of here. Are there any teaching tools in it?

Olivia Hotshot: Yes valentine - if people post them they will be in transcript

Kali Pizzaro: i think i got a host of scripts for educators at iste

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I'm also making our HoU textures available there for free

Kali Pizzaro: or was it education Uk - Geoff?

Mimi Muircastle: cool textures, @Iggy

Geoff Lumley: No Kali, it wasn't

Julia Tiraxibar: I also went to the SL blog and asked for scripting help and got help within the day.

Kali Pizzaro: ok so maybe iste

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: they are not rip offs--I took most of them from photos I took, except for the paintings :)

Olivia Hotshot: Ohhh great resource @Julia

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: did someone post a SLURL for free scripts for educators?

Geoff Lumley: On second thoughts, there were some - notecard givers and takers, that sort of thing

Kali Pizzaro: two mins till i find

Mimi Muircastle: not that I saw @Iggy

Olivia Hotshot: 32 on sim for transcript

Birdie Newcomb: Dudeney Ge has made good stuff.

Kali Pizzaro: i cant find the slurl

Ignatius Onomatopoeia searches mess of an inventory :)

Kali Pizzaro: i will try to find and add

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Kali--please. I'm not coming up with it :(

Kali Pizzaro: cant remember where i got them

Kali Pizzaro: no landmark in the folder

Geoff Lumley: Hey; we've all got one of those Iggy. A messy inventory seems to be a requirement for an educator

Lolly Dovgal: Amen to that

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: LOL we have the same problem, but let me put two links in for the group: two scripting helpers I use

Olivia Hotshot: ok and now it is time....... for the energetic part. (Hoping this does nto flop)

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: you need not be a LSL scripter to use them, thank God

Olivia Hotshot: Ready?

Mimi Muircastle: ready!

Grinn Pidgeon: in-worlds conferences. workshops, and meetings have always offered goodie bags--some have good stuff

Olivia Hotshot: OK folks, we are going to try something new today. Since the topic is teaching without land in SL, lets see if we can create a resource for each other that contains information about freebie resources and teaching locations in SL. I will pick the box up later today and during the week create a giver with the notecard resources for all of you to take as a copy and use on your own land.

Mimi Muircastle: great idea!

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I'll put them in a note card!

ValentineBouquet Garnet: NICE!!!!!!!!!

Rachelle Munro: great idea, Olivia!

Olivia Hotshot: (The box is in the middle of the table.)

Olivia Hotshot: I am now going to do is post the directions on how to do this. Iggy and Kali have both agreed to help, so if you have a question please send it to one of them in IM.

Olivia Hotshot: 1. Click the box to get the notecard suggestion form.

VWER_may11_10_021

Olivia Hotshot: (go for it!!!)

Olivia Hotshot: It will give you a notecard.

Olivia Hotshot: Everyone ok so far?

Mimi Muircastle: works perfectly!

Olivia Hotshot: 2. Add your information (including LM and what people can find there) to the notecard.

Del Hapmouche: y

Olivia Hotshot: (Take a moment to look through your inventory and find something to recommend...a freebie resource, land, etc.)

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Olivia Hotshot: 3. Rename notecard with the location or resource.

Olivia Hotshot: (for example rename it Eduisland)

Mimi Muircastle: can we finish this after the meeting @Olivia

Olivia Hotshot: 4. Drag notecard from your inventory to the box to submit.

Olivia Hotshot: I will pick the box up later today and during the week create a giver with the notecard resources for all of you to take as a copy and use on your own land.

Olivia Hotshot: will have completed giver here next week for you

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: woot...this is a great idea!

ValentineBouquet Garnet: this will be a great way of sharing and we can pass it along to others too

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Olivia Hotshot smiles like a pig in mud or Pappy =)

ValentineBouquet Garnet: Educators rock!

Mimi Muircastle: brilliant, @Olivia - thank you!

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: hoo whee (/me channels Mr. Enoch for a second)

Olivia Hotshot: if we can get 30 cards in here i will LOVE it! Add more than one if you want.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: good thing we didn't ask him--he's been squatting on abandonned land for 6 weeks :)

Olivia Hotshot: OK gang lets help each other and build a cool resource!

Olivia Hotshot: plenty of time..... so relax and enjoy

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

ValentineBouquet Garnet: When can we get the entire list?

Olivia Hotshot: chuckles.

Olivia Hotshot: I will pick the box up later today and during the week create a giver with the notecard resources for all of you to take as a copy and use on your own land.

ValentineBouquet Garnet: It is amazing, this is Web 2.0 technology in action, user created content!!!

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: 8 suggestions--keep them there cards and letter a-coming!

Olivia Hotshot: Will place the completed project here next week.

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

LoCE99Ch8 Morpork: BRB. Must go check if resource is still there.

Olivia Hotshot: no problem Lo.

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I'll get the LM to the Arcadia Asylum museum, too--lots of her content is still in SL for free--funny stuff to add character to a build

Olivia Hotshot: OK, lets spend a bit more time, and then wrap this up with a final conversation.

Lolly Dovgal: OK, not too hard. I added four landmarks to my suggestion, and one tip.

Olivia Hotshot: 5 more minutes or less do you think?

ValentineBouquet Garnet: need to go.....great to be here today, this is one of the BEST groups in SL for professional development

Olivia Hotshot smiles. Thank you Valentine

Birdie Newcomb: Arcadia Asylum -- it certainly will add "character" =)

Kali Pizzaro: cheers Valentine

ValentineBouquet Garnet: thank you all, I get inspired on Tuesday afternoons here in SL!!!!

Kali Pizzaro: woop

Mimi Muircastle: and you inspired us too, Valentine:)

Olivia Hotshot: i love collaboration.

Kali Pizzaro: So Olivia what about - How to get to see other folk in action in their class to get ideas

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

ValentineBouquet Garnet: Oh, thanks!

Mimi Muircastle: this has been fun, @Olivia!

Olivia Hotshot: Thanks Mimi. I took a risk doing this, but man o man you guys are GREAT!

Mimi Muircastle: I would enjoy that too Kali

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Kali Pizzaro: we should try to invite folk to see each others ideas

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Kali Pizzaro: i would be up for that

Mimi Muircastle: This was awesome, Olivia - esp. giving time after class to do a little homework!

Olivia Hotshot: OK lets wrap up all the submissions.

Lolly Dovgal: These could be a great idea for future events, too.

Olivia Hotshot: The box will stay here until the end of the day.

Lolly Dovgal: I took lots of photos today.

Mimi Muircastle: yes, Lolly

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: we need more resources like this. The problem with freebies on XstreetsL alternatives is that students will see adult-rated stuff when they surf the site :(

Mimi Muircastle: and ours of course are all student proof!

Olivia Hotshot: =)

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: LOL never happen :)

Geoff Lumley: Well guys, my day has ended. See you all again

Olivia Hotshot: OK, i am going to move on, keep working if you need to.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: tc Geoff

Kali Pizzaro: we should keep the box here and just add to it monthly or bimonthly

Logos Sohl: Bye Geoff

Mimi Muircastle: thanks for all your input Geoff

Olivia Hotshot: Bye Geoff.

Birdie Newcomb: I wonder what the new LL marketplace will look like

Geoff Lumley: Cheerio for now

Logos Sohl: Yeah Birdie, sounds interesting

Lolly Dovgal: Kali, yes

Kali Pizzaro: Bye Geoff you going to alt

Olivia Hotshot: OK, so tell me folks, can people teach here and not have land?

Kali Pizzaro: yeah

Lolly Dovgal: SUre.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Birdie...it will be fine I'm sure. But there won't be freebies with that 99L monthly fee to list

Lolly Dovgal: Meet people who have land and ask to borrow it

Mimi Muircastle: sure sounds like it as long as you make positive connections

Kali Pizzaro: or collaborate with a class

Kali Pizzaro: share learning

Lolly Dovgal: I've met folks who have taught me things, and taken me to trainings.

Olivia Hotshot: excellent suggestions

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Olivia..absolutely. You could use ISTE or NMC to orient students and then send them on to do work.

Mimi Muircastle: yes, I like that too Kali

Kali Pizzaro: it might not be the same subject but we can pick up

Lolly Dovgal: Chico, is small, but we have a place to share, as schedules allow.

Olivia Hotshot: so a home base is needed... necessary, but you do nto have to own it.

Kali Pizzaro: or it might be the interactions or discourse that interests others

Mimi Muircastle: and the Chico build is so user friendly and cheerful!

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: yeah--imagine using the Ahern Morris WA as home base...my God.

Zotarah Shepherd: People do not have to OWN land in SL but you have to meet someplace, even a sandbox in a pinch.

Lolly Dovgal: Mimi, thanks.

Olivia Hotshot: ahh thanks Mimi

Mimi Muircastle: you are both welcome - it is true!

Olivia Hotshot: Zo, do you have a sandbox you would recommend?

Kali Pizzaro: it makes it easier for me that our uni owns land

Olivia Hotshot: actually lets open that up -= sandbox recommendations?

Kali Pizzaro: o cant comment on others

Olivia Hotshot: my IBM fav is gone now.

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Zotarah Shepherd: Actually there are some private ones but I do not have a current list.

Mimi Muircastle: Oregon Island has one that is open

Olivia Hotshot: Mimi - do you have a LM?

Mimi Muircastle: I will find it in a sec :)

Olivia Hotshot: Cool, please add it to the box?

VWER_may11_10_012

Zotarah Shepherd: If I am not using my sim for a class, you can ask me to use some space on Ralanora.

Jesse Fugue: Ok, class is done. I can focus here finally.

Mimi Muircastle: Oregon Community Colleges (85,92,38)

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I'd actually find abandoned land, be respectful, and not tell anyone...lots of owners leave rezzing on when they quite their land

Olivia Hotshot: Zo, could you add that? (with the aside?)

Julia Tiraxibar: Texas A&M on 12th Man Island has a sandbox - it's pretty high up, but you can get there by clicking on one of the directories set around the land.

Zotarah Shepherd: Sure

Ignatius Onomatopoeia looks around for LL employees and grins

Sparky Dionysus: How do you use whiteboards ?

Olivia Hotshot: Julia, a LM ?

Zotarah Shepherd: I have to run off to class soon so I will do that later

Mimi Muircastle: they are always watching you @Iggy

Kali Pizzaro: what a fab meeting - woke me up

Olivia Hotshot: Thanks Zo.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia dons his tin foil cap

Kali Pizzaro: come see us in GCU if you wish

Kali Pizzaro: next semester

Birdie Newcomb: I've run across LL land sandbox, but not lately.

Mimi Muircastle: me too and I got to eat my lunch while participating!

Zotarah Shepherd: Discussion here is always inspiring and encouraging.

Olivia Hotshot: So to summarize, there are MANY opportunities and resources in the ED community IF you reach out and ask.

Suggestion Box whispers: Thank you for the suggestion! We appreciate your opinion.

Kali Pizzaro: yep reach out your hand lalalalalalalala

Mimi Muircastle: absolutely!
