Iggy's Note: The Burning Life SLURLs are no longer valid, so I won't link to BL content unless it's an artifact online elsewhere.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Hi everyone, and welcome to this weeks SL Education Roundtable.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: These meetings are made possible by the Office of Information Technology at Montclair State University.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: We meet here each week at 2:30pm SLT for an hour.

Zotarah Shepherd: We are looking at slides from BL

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: today's topic is Burning Life Wrap-up and Hosting Arts Events

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: The SL Education Roundtable is a forum to educate and inform the community about issues that are important and relevant to education.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: The views and opinions of any of our special guests or visitors do not necessarily represent those who volunteer or organize these meetings, or of Montclair State University,

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: The College of Humanities, Social Sciences, or Office of Information Technology.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Our meetings are roundtable style, so those in the theater seats please come down and join us at the table.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Our magic expanding table will always have an empty seat, located closest to the ramp.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: This is a public meeting, so we do keep a transcript of what is said in local chat.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: For a copy of older transcripts, please visit http://sler-transcripts.wikispaces.com and for more recent transcripts, please visit http://www.virtualworldsedu.info/slroundtable/

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I'm Iggy, the scribe for this group, and I'm hosting while AJ Brooks is away. If you've not seen the transcripts I run, you should check them out - they are a great information asset.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Information on FUTURE MEETINGS is available from the notecard giver on the West wall of the Amphitheater.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Thanks to Olivia Hotshot for putting together a Flickr group for the SLER. I encourage everyone to join the group and to take pictures from our meeting and add them to the group. Its a great way to show, and grow, our community.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: The SL Education Roundtable meeting happens each week and we are looking to develop a community of educators from around the world with a variety of thoughts, needs, and ideas.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Please join the SL EDUCATION ROUNDTABLE group. If you have problems finding it in search, here inside the amphitheater, on the Eastern wall, you will see a display

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Click the display and follow the instruction in local chat on how to join the group.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: As the group grows, there will be announcements, surveys, and decisions made that will be exclusive to the group.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Aside from the island we are currently on, Montclair State University also has two other educational islands adjoining to the north.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: There are also numerous learning areas on these adjoining islands, Montclair State CHSS, which is home to our Quidditch pitch and the SL MSU Library,

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: and Montclair State CEHSADP, which is home to The Theorist Project and Wilber Middle School Library. Wander around and enjoy.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: If you are on Facebook, please join our group there - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=44078263753&ref=share

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Finally, if you have Mystitool on, or other similiar tool, please put it to sleep or detach it for now. :-) It tends to lag things.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Today's meeting is in text chat.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: As a hint, it is better to have "local chat" open for these meetings, it will help you follow the conversation better.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: You can find local chat by clicking COMMUNICATE in the bottom navigation bar and you'll find LOCAL CHAT as one of the tabs at the bottom of the Communicate window.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I'd also like to remind folks to come on down and join us around the table, there's always an open seat closest to the ramp.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Why don't we get started they way we usually do, by introducing ourselves. No need to wait, go ahead and type who you are, where you are, and your ties to education into local chat.

SLER-10-27-09_033

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I'm really pleased that we have Olivia here today, since she was a builder at BL this year

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: and take a look at the slides we put up behind our table. Another set is by the steps to the Amphitheater.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: thanks to Grinn, Serena, Vaneeesa, and everyone else who sent me slides to share

Katie Fenstalker: (yeah Olivia!)

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: let's begin with Olivia

Olivia Hotshot: thanks Katie =)

Mimi Muircastle: great build Olivia

Katie Fenstalker: and all the other slide people!

Olivia Hotshot: Thanks Mimi.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: What made BL different for you, from your other arts events?

Olivia Hotshot: Is that to me, Iggy, or the group?

Zotarah Shepherd: It was big

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: yes, to you Olivia

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: then we can all chime in

Olivia Hotshot: Ahh, ok. Good question.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: do we have other builders here?

Olivia Hotshot: Last year i went to BL for the first time, and had no idea it was such a community effort. I learned much from the grup NPRIL before i went in, so i knew about a lot of the artists.

Olivia Hotshot: But i loved it.

Hebask Falconer: Julala and I built the Cornwall College sim

Olivia Hotshot: By the end i was determined ot build the next year, so when i came along, i did it.

Olivia Hotshot: Shall i talk a bit about how one gets to be a builder?

Katie Fenstalker: what gave you the idea?

Firery Broome: yes for University of Delaware

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Hebask--very cool. We should talk about how colleges can promote the arts in SL today as well.

Olivia Hotshot: I came up with a team actually, and we met and discussed how we could meet the theme of Evolution.

Olivia Hotshot: and since one of tm team was GeoFrank, we have NASA to back us up with content.

Mimi Muircastle: not bad, NASA :)

Olivia Hotshot: So, i designed a sim with space travel inmind, that i could bring people to celebrate, learn, participate, and dance.

Katie Fenstalker: (very cool)

Olivia Hotshot: I wanted it to be noob friendly.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: one poor astronaut teleported into one of our dances :)

Zotarah Shepherd: I want to have a build there next year

Mimi Muircastle: and it was :)

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: my students came too--and they are noobs and felt very welcome

Olivia Hotshot: We had a lot of guidance at the even to helpus build with less lag, and to know what to to include.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Did the Lindens permit Megaprims on the builds?

Olivia Hotshot: I can say i am glad i had time to explore before it started, because once it started was busy for 9 straight days.

Olivia Hotshot: No mega on BL.

Katie Fenstalker: tips on building with less lag is good to share.

Olivia Hotshot: I probably gave away 300 flaming hats. =)

Olivia Hotshot: and for some people, it was the first time they learned how to do an attachment.

Mimi Muircastle: I was so impressed by the low, low number of prims used on all the builds - really amazing

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: yes, Mimi, and w/o megas that is quite a challenge

Olivia Hotshot: we were given specific amounts of prims to use, according to the application we submitted

Olivia Hotshot: we had a bit over 700 prims to use

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: 25 on the sim, for the record

Mimi Muircastle: learning to build with low prims is great experience

Olivia Hotshot: smaller plots - art plots - has a bit over 300

Olivia Hotshot: keeping all textures to 512x 512 or lower

SLER-10-27-09_021

Zotarah Shepherd: Low rez textures help too

Olivia Hotshot: the application process is easy

Olivia Hotshot: and we were VERY lucky to be chosen

Zotarah Shepherd: And few transparencies too

Olivia Hotshot: There is a parcel for everyone who wants it - from the huge builds like Tokyo Plaza to walk in campers

Zotarah Shepherd: I saw many empty sims in the middle and south

Mimi Muircastle: I am curious about the connection between your application being accepted and the land rush at the beginning?

Olivia Hotshot: i also did the land rush which was a trip

Olivia Hotshot: they were open because that is where the man was burned

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: the new SL update has been more laggy, but despite that BL worked well. That shows how carefully the builds were done

Katie Fenstalker: (what is land rush?)

Olivia Hotshot: The land rush is where the lindens open a sim and the first people to "rush" in and touch a pole or kiosk, get to keep the parcel.

Katie Fenstalker: love that Gulliver pic

Olivia Hotshot: it is hilarious

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: he's still there

Mimi Muircastle: must be mega lag event!

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: you can climb all over him--but he's on fire now

Olivia Hotshot: no hair, stripped down, hundreds flying in simultaneously to touch a pole

Olivia Hotshot: yes

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Gulliver is at: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Burning%20Life-3%20Mile/236/140/25

SLER-10-27-09_009

Katie Fenstalker: (naked avatars?)

Firery Broome: yes

Olivia Hotshot: and out of the 4 of us - one of us got the art parcel, not knowing the next day we would be awarded a theme camp.

Mimi Muircastle: so, the land rush is not required, right?

Olivia Hotshot: yes

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: LOL a naked land-rush

Mimi Muircastle: omg:)

Olivia Hotshot: No, it is for those whose applications are not accepted, but who stillwant parcels.

Mimi Muircastle: so you know before the land rush your app is accepted?

Katie Fenstalker: nice way to do it. But you don't know until after?

Olivia Hotshot: you do Mimi, but in my case they did not tell me.

Mimi Muircastle: ouch :)

Olivia Hotshot: i learned the next night i got it with a mystery email simply saying congrats, and a slurl

Olivia Hotshot: i went

Olivia Hotshot: and i was the first one on the playa.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: most of us doing any builds don't have to contend with a land rush...what a relief

Olivia Hotshot: just me and Talia - i was in shock.

Olivia Hotshot: great to see it before one single build had started

Olivia Hotshot: any other questions?

Mimi Muircastle: must have been fun to see the builds evolve

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: what was the biggest lesson, Olivia

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: that you will take to future builds?

Katie Fenstalker: nods.

Birdie Newcomb: Anything goes...

Mimi Muircastle: advice for future wanna be BL builders???

Olivia Hotshot: that was one of the best - but - even better was getting to know who builds in SL - the really famous stuff - and meeting them and learning what they like to do - most of these people are the "hermits" as it is known.

Katie Fenstalker: hermits?

Olivia Hotshot: Advice - start small. Donpatchy's Tokyo Plaza was 4 sims connected=)

Mimi Muircastle: there are some amazing builders, like DrFran, and others

Birdie Newcomb: The running dialogue -- was that from the RL Burning Man?

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Katie--they don't interact with the larger SL community

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: they just come in and build

Olivia Hotshot: Hermits are the inhabitants of sl - usually from 2005 - 2006 - who do not socialize - they build and script

Katie Fenstalker: ty

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I've been a hermit at House of Usher for a month--building does that to you

Mimi Muircastle: however, some socialize in their own communities from what I know :)

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: once you get the "bug" you don't want to do other things

Katie Fenstalker: nods.

Zotarah Shepherd: I am more of a hermit since building my sim

Olivia Hotshot: And the parties that went on before it opened were great = spontaneous gathering of amazingly creative fun open and welcoming people.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I would have love to met Bryn Oh

Birdie Newcomb: It's great to virtualize one's imagination.

SLER-10-27-09_002

Mimi Muircastle: using the windlight settings is making me a hermit photobug

Olivia Hotshot: Bryn is a doll. I have known her for awhile.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Did anyone else tour "Vessel's Dream"?

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: she's a genius

Firery Broome: Yes for Bryn's build

Mimi Muircastle: I missed that one - but loved DrFran's *elvinator*

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: here's a link to a Machinima of it: http://blip.tv/file/2701783/

Eliasdehart Sixpence: yes - did you make it to the skybox at the end?

Firery Broome: yes

Olivia Hotshot: I am going to post a link to some "Best Builds"

Zotarah Shepherd: I want to take a tour at next year's BL with Olivia. *grins*

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: For educators, Burning Life can be a revelation

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: did anyone else have the "aha!" moment I had in 2008?

Olivia Hotshot: The 20 Burning Life Camps You Must See - http://changingworldsbuildingdreams.com/the-20-burning-life-camps-you-must-see

Zotarah Shepherd: I think I missed a lot not knowing what to look for

Mimi Muircastle: I think the best part is it moves us out into the larger SL community

Lolly Dovgal: I met a lot of people, I wouldn't normally meet.

Lolly Dovgal: Some took me to educational trainings in SL later.

Birdie Newcomb: yes, a lot of serendipity

Olivia Hotshot: My photos - http://www.slide.com/r/h8C82XuM5D_6ID8hKAVJ-J41KN_ylC9S?previous_view=lt_embedded_url

Mimi Muircastle: that's what I meant, Lolly

Lolly Dovgal: ISTE people.

Zotarah Shepherd: I am glad SL has a community like that

Lolly Dovgal: It's wonderful.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: yes--getting out is good

Lolly Dovgal: I'm pretty much a hermit, myself, and this helped me open up a bit.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: for my students, BL was the first "big" event they've attended

Birdie Newcomb: Is that San Francisco culture leaking in?

Lolly Dovgal: I wasn't as shy as usual, because everyone was so open and friendly.

Mimi Muircastle: SF culture rocks :)

Olivia Hotshot: My build may not have been an "art piece" but it was functional, low lag, and a ton of educators and students (many who were in SL for the first time) used my parcel as the gateway to BL.

Firery Broome: Not San Francisco culture it is SL culture

Mimi Muircastle: that is great, Olivia

Olivia Hotshot: I am very happy with what i did.

Lolly Dovgal: And I learned to dance there.

Lolly Dovgal: Thanks, Olivia.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I don't know about SF Culture, but BL looks a lot like the DIY punk culture that is still big in Richmond

Olivia Hotshot: Welcome Lolly.

Mimi Muircastle: and elsewhere :)

Zotarah Shepherd: Is your build still up Olivia?

Olivia Hotshot: Birdie - it is WORLD culture.

Birdie Newcomb: That gives me hope

Mimi Muircastle: true, Olivia

Olivia Hotshot: Yes, all builds are up and functional until Nov 1.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: We old punkers need to punk the next generation

Lolly Dovgal: YEAH

Zotarah Shepherd: I want a LM to your build Olivia

Olivia Hotshot: After that the best will stay and there will be an Afterburn party.

Mimi Muircastle: lol

Olivia Hotshot: Sure Zo.

Zotarah Shepherd: Thanks *big smile*

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Last year, I actually got to ask Philip Rosedale a question about that issue...and I'm not dropping names

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I asked him what we can do to bring some of Burner culture into RL

Hebask Falconer: love that Dali painting
SLER-10-27-09_008

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: this was at a talk he gave at BL

Mimi Muircastle: what was his answer ?

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: he said it's essential

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: to become a creator in RL

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: he hoped we'd all go make something

Zotarah Shepherd: Thanks Olivia

Mimi Muircastle: agree - I think that harks back to the original SL culture as people learned to build

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: not just art, but change, social action, service that changes people

Olivia Hotshot: welcome

Mimi Muircastle: agree, again

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: so for those of us with campuses or sites outside BL...

Mimi Muircastle: the service that changes people part is so important

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: what can we do to foster creativity in the spaces we have here?

Olivia Hotshot: I especially like that there is nothing commercial in BL. No money exchanges hands - just good will and lots of freebies.

Mimi Muircastle: yay!

Miki Zeritonga: BL is very commercial. You have to pay to be a creator there

Olivia Hotshot: Miki, you do?

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Mimi--yeah. I'm a carpenter on the side so I signed up right away with Habitat and took some students to help me roof.

Mimi Muircastle: you mean the RL Burning man

Olivia Hotshot: Should i expect a bill now?

Miki Zeritonga: MOST visitors to BL+ just experience it (and that is ALL they can do).

Ignatius Onomatopoeia hands Olivia an invoice :)

Mimi Muircastle: got it , Iggy

Miki Zeritonga: They people who BUILD BL's contents have to pay for the privilege

Olivia Hotshot: There is NO charge for building at BL and it is NOT commercial.

Zotarah Shepherd: No ads are even allowed

Miki Zeritonga: It is aimed at places like corporations, or universities, who want to control the experience.

Mimi Muircastle: that is what I thought too, Olivia

Lolly Dovgal: That is awesome.

Olivia Hotshot: Miki, you are misinformed.

Miki Zeritonga: You basically have to rent a sim

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Miki--what? Burning Life? Or RL Burning Man?

Miki Zeritonga: Oh sorry

Zotarah Shepherd: I know individuals who build at BL not as part of any organization

Olivia Hotshot: There are no Sims at Burning Man, it is real. =)

Mimi Muircastle: do you have to be a landowner in SL to participate in BL?

Miki Zeritonga: When You said BL I was not thinking about Burning Life

Miki Zeritonga: I was thinking Blue Mars. Opps, ha ha

Miki Zeritonga: I take it all back

Miki Zeritonga: Blue Mars is the commercial one with no building

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Miki--quite so--Blue Mars is for tourists, unless you are a major content creator.

Mimi Muircastle: oops - Blue Mars is very different than SL :) just sayn'

Zotarah Shepherd: whew

Miki Zeritonga: BL is just a piece of SL

Olivia Hotshot: i was thinking i went to the wrong party

Mimi Muircastle: BL is a community wide event in SL

Katie Fenstalker: (sorry I crashed.)

Miki Zeritonga: Too many acronyms. My bad

SLER-10-27-09_003

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Right--Blue Mars is another virtual world

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: for tourists :)

Eliasdehart Sixpence: SOMHFO!

Zotarah Shepherd: ?

Miki Zeritonga: Yes, Burning Life is just a temporary Second Life evnue, like the SL6B parties

Eliasdehart Sixpence: standing on my head freaking out

Olivia Hotshot: Another great thing about BL is that there are so many smart people help each other - it is a community of learners & teachers & helpers

Mimi Muircastle: which was the original intent and spirit of SL :)

Olivia Hotshot: <--- and by typists

Olivia Hotshot: bad

Zotarah Shepherd: Most people in SL are like that

Miki Zeritonga: I have run into that same attitude pretty much throughout SL.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: my students were really impressed by the culture of helpfulness at the event

Mimi Muircastle: that must have been fun to watch, Iggy

BL-story_031

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I don't know if they interacted with Rangers or not (Linden Lab helpers who work at Burning Life)

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Mimi, they had a great time.

Miki Zeritonga: I think Burning Life is pretty much a microcosm of the whole thing. A bit more uncontrolled though, just because it is temporary.

Mimi Muircastle: uncontrolled in what way?

Birdie Newcomb: It made me feel stodgy when I went back to my site 8=(

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: yeah...me too Birdie

Julala Demina: it inspired me

Julala Demina: to improve my skills

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: so what can we do to use that inspiration on our virtual campuses?

Olivia Hotshot: Actually it is very controlled. We had our parcels inspected for bad scripts, lag causing elements, and too big textures.

Mimi Muircastle: I saw that contrast too - sometime the educ. builds are too literal :)

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Mimi--right on. I don't want lecture halls in my part of SL

Profdan Netizen: Who did the inspecting, Olivia?

Julala Demina: i agree mimi - roof s and walls

Mimi Muircastle: perhaps the lesson from BL, is to bring more creativity to education building ???

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: That's why the Theorists' build here at Montclair is so refreshing

Zotarah Shepherd: Yes

Birdie Newcomb: Now I want to figure out how to build a kite.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: you can make metaphors come alive, which is what art can do.

Olivia Hotshot: There were specific team members who came around. It was more voluntary - however if they spotted a problem, they would IM people.

Mimi Muircastle: yes, I love the Theorists - and now Oregon CC have a Philosophers garden that is similar to that

Julala Demina: was there much griefing reported at the event?

Mimi Muircastle: yes, definitely, Iggy

Olivia Hotshot: well scripts and building were turned off - which helped

Julala Demina: ah yes, of course

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: yes that was wise

Olivia Hotshot: pain for dance animations though

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: What advice about hosting arts events comes out of Burning Life?

BL-10-24-09_021

Mimi Muircastle: perhaps a fun discussion topic might be how to use metaphors in our education builds...just a thought

Julala Demina: i think they would switch it on for limited periods for certain events

Katie Fenstalker: (and advice about having fun at these things too?)

Olivia Hotshot: oh good idea mimi

Mimi Muircastle: save it I may forget :)

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Mimi I'll tell AJ-good idea! We'll have a meeting soon on future topics you know

Zotarah Shepherd: It would be nice to see an education build event, just to see how creative we can do it

Mimi Muircastle: glad to contribute :)

Birdie Newcomb: You'e already done one, Zo

Ahlan Oh shakes himself awake....

Ahlan Oh: sorry!

Julala Demina: there was some educational builds at the College Fair this last weekend

Mimi Muircastle: good idea, Zo - and maybe tours of some of the more creative ones would be fun

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: well, we have talked about field-trips

Julala Demina: they are still there now

Mimi Muircastle: yes, I saw some, especially Front Range CC

Julala Demina: at International Schools Island

hobbs Constantine: waits with baited breath.....

Zotarah Shepherd: Yeah but I would like to see more and have a place to share them in a community

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: does anyone have any SLURLs for ongoing arts sites in SL ?

Firery Broome: At Delaware we are hosting builds by SL creators, and a faculty member spoke on the Outsider Art theme. Asking questions and connecting SL creators with Outsider Artists.

Mimi Muircastle: that sounds cool, Firery

Firery Broome: I have tones of art sims if any one is interested

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: put any URLs/SLURLs right into the chat for our transcript

Zotarah Shepherd: I didn't hear about that one

Eliasdehart Sixpence: AM Radio has a bunch of sites

Birdie Newcomb: Tell me more about Outsider art -- someone is offering one in RL at an event

Firery Broome: AM changes hie often

Zotarah Shepherd: Is there a list of these places?

Firery Broome: it is important to see them as they come out, what them change

Firery Broome: then they go away

Firery Broome: Bryn always changes her sim as well

Firery Broome: good to go often

Julala Demina: warwickshire uni have some great mathematical sculptures on their sim

Birdie Newcomb: what sim?

Mimi Muircastle: Iggy, can we keep a list of these that are being mentioned when you do the transcript?

Olivia Hotshot: My advice is to join Not Possible in Real Life's group. Then you will get invited to previews and learn who and what is hot. And that is just one of many groups that do it.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Julala--good example of interdisciplinary use of art

Zotarah Shepherd: We should do a tour of these places so we can go together and discuss them

Dance_011

Firery Broome: How you think about art in SL is important

Mimi Muircastle: agreed, Zo

Firery Broome: not always what you think of as art

Julala Demina: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Warwick%20University%20Maths/128/128/2

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: @Zo--be sure we bring that up at the future topics meeting

Mimi Muircastle: from my pov, art = SL

Olivia Hotshot: Zo, you are reading our minds - AJ, Iggy & i discussed field trips last night.

Olivia Hotshot: Iggy remind me to talk about that before we go.

hobbs Constantine: Is it too cheezy to go on a tour after this meeting (for those of us who have not explored BL)

Firery Broome: yes, it is all art Mimi, some better than others

Olivia Hotshot: Hobbs - we are doing exactly that.

Zotarah Shepherd: Art in SL is a much more free expression of who we are and what we think and feel

Mimi Muircastle: that is not cheezy, that is a cool idea

Olivia Hotshot: Igy should i just go ahead and tell the field trip idea?

hobbs Constantine: TY Olivia, I was late to the party, your forgiveness is appreciated

Zotarah Shepherd: I would go

Olivia Hotshot give Hobbs infinite dispensation

Olivia Hotshot: =)

Olivia Hotshot: <-- pokes Iggy

Olivia Hotshot: Hmmm

Profdan Netizen: Just do it, Olivia. WE want to hear!

Olivia Hotshot: hehehe

Mimi Muircastle: be brave, Olivia :)

Katie Fenstalker: go ahead Olivia

Olivia Hotshot: well so many of us know of great sims to explore.

Zotarah Shepherd: Yay Olivia

Olivia Hotshot: esp like BL

Firery Broome: I always take my students to Lollygagger Lane, right after AM's builds. They all look at it and think it is a dump and ugly. Then I take them to the gallery, which is a trash heap. In there are all the RL resource images that they built the sim from.
that usually gets an amazing reaction from them.

Olivia Hotshot: so....

Mimi Muircastle: if we all tp he will wonder where we have gone :)

Olivia Hotshot: Here is the idea folks:

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: sorry--spilled tea IRL

Olivia Hotshot: send me a notecard - saved as YOUR NAME & SIM

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: what am I being poked about?

Olivia Hotshot: and when and where you want to offer to take people from SLER

Zotarah Shepherd: Scroll back Iggy

Mimi Muircastle: you're lucky we are still here, Iggy

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: heehee

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I see

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: sure, Olivia

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: let's spill some beans

Olivia Hotshot: I will consolidate the cards and send them out as a group.

hobbs Constantine: what a great idea!

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: but not too many :)

Mimi Muircastle: or leaves

Olivia Hotshot: and you contact the Trip leader as to where to meet and when

Olivia Hotshot: i would love to see this keep going

Katie Fenstalker: so a potluck fieldtrip round a bout?

Mimi Muircastle: keep what going, Olivia

Olivia Hotshot: does anyone know of a sim they would like to take people to explore? and you think you can be the leader of the trip - send me a card.

Olivia Hotshot: keep field trips going throughout the year.

Mimi Muircastle: oh - sorry - got it

Zotarah Shepherd: Gosh there are so many great sims

hobbs Constantine: I'd love to give tours of places I don't even know. Walking backwardand talking is one of my talents

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: it's hard for our European SLERs, but maybe we can go after these meetings for an hour, once in a while

Mimi Muircastle: I think we need to include non educational sims too

Zotarah Shepherd: Mine is not all built yet.

Olivia Hotshot: So for example you can lead a trip, Zo, to your Gardner sim, then offer it up. i am sure people would love to see.

Olivia Hotshot: Yes, Mimi.

hobbs Constantine: ...and we're walking.....and we're walking" LOL

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: I will give a House of Usher tour when it's done. We beta test in December

Birdie Newcomb: I'm in progress too.

Zotarah Shepherd: Oh sure glad too

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: Mirt and two colleagues have seen it

Mimi Muircastle: I will check with Oregon to see if we can visit their Philosophy Garden

Olivia Hotshot: Then send me a notecard - name it your name and the sim you want to take people to. On the card tell me when you want to do it and what the sim is. I will distribute.

Katie Fenstalker: how distribute?

Zotarah Shepherd is all excited about seeing these places together

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: So let me ask a philosophical Q before we break in 7 minutes :)

Olivia Hotshot: I will consolidate the cards and send as an attachment to SLER group.

Ignatius Onomatopoeia: what CAN'T the arts do in SL?

Mimi Muircastle: not much :)

Zotarah Shepherd draws a blank
